Cash

In Gaza a banknote is worth less than its face once it is worn.

10%charged to accept worn notes

Muhammad Hussam, 38, displaced from Shuja’iyya, had 200 shekels of aid cash refused for apples; a second seller took it only with a 10% cut. At the height of the war people paid up to 50% to turn bank balances into cash. Gaza’s media office says refusing legal notes, or charging to accept them, has been criminalised. Mondoweiss, 14 Oct

The cap cited by economist Sami al-Khaldi in the same report.

“Now, some sellers demand 120 shekels in cash for goods worth only 100 shekels.”

Prices

What things cost in September and the first half of October. Gaza prices are still far above what they were before the war, and moving fast.
